Edinburgh Quartet, James MacMillan, Jennifer Martin, Cumnock Academy, Doon Academy, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Martin Travers
The culmination of a special creative project involving the Edinburgh Quartet and composers Jennifer Martin and James MacMillan, combining new compositions by students of Doon Academy, Dalmellington, with young musicians and ballet dancers from the local Royal Conservatoire of Scotland hub at Dumfries House, and young composers from the RCS itself. Storytellers
weave half-remembered tales of Ayrshire’s WW1 experience through a performance of specially composed music and dance by local young people.
Beginning in June this year Jennifer Martin, James MacMillan and the RCS student composers have been working with the Doon composers and the young students at the Dumfries House Hub, encouraging them to create a series of artistic reflections on the local war experience, 100 years after the Armistice was declared. Martin Travers of the Citizens Theatre stitches the various component parts together with stories from the East Ayrshire community’s war years.
