Gloria -
Festival Finale
Sunday 8th October 2023 7.30pm
Barony Hall
We are delighted that the Festival Chorus is joined again by their principal conductor Eamonn Dougan in this varied and vibrant programme. The main work is The Rio Grande, a secular cantata by English composer Constant Lambert. It combines jazzy syncopation with lithe Latin American dance rhythms that create an air of haunting nostalgia.
The Chorus is joined by some brilliant young musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland who will also perform Bela Bartok’s astonishing Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, written in 1937. The concert begins with the world premiere of Phillip Cooke’s Gloria which has been specially commissioned by The Cumnock Tryst. The composer is Professor of Composition at the University of Aberdeen.
This event is supported by PRS Foundation’s The Open Fund.
